About 2017-09-25T11:15:59+00:00

I’m 17. I’m standing in the living room as a woman breathes deep and with a quiet strength I know nothing about, delivers her baby into her midwife’s hands in the comfort of her living room. It’s her fifth baby, but it’s my first time— and this, this miraculous and messy thing that has just happened— this is birth.

Fast forward quite a few years, and I am pregnant with my first son. I am standing in my own living room, working through a contraction and having no idea how much harder it will get, how much longer I’ll be in labour; what a winding road we have ahead. Some time I’ll tell you the rest of the story— but that’s not most important now.

What I want you to know about me is that I have been there. I have walked the long road of labour and faced many unknowns— as you may have before or may be approaching. Multiple ultrasound scans for fetal development concerns, planning a home birth, going 12 days overdue, a long early labour, a hospital transfer, an epidural, three hours of pushing and attempted vacuum-assisted delivery, an emergency Cesarean birth, failing to meet my breastfeeding goals, and grieving my lost dream birth. Then, just shy of two years later, birthing my second son on a sunny February morning in the comfort of my bedroom through a successful VBAC, experiencing an unmedicated labour and establishing a positive breastfeeding relationship.

Fast forward two more years— I know how deeply birth experiences impact families, and especially birthing mothers, for the rest of our lives. And I want you to have a story you’ll love to tell. So I have become a certified birth and postpartum doula, ready to walk alongside you and provide the continuous care that can make a night-and-day difference to your experience.

Pregnancy, birth and early parenting can lead us down many roads we never intended to take— the reality is that this is an unpredictable time of life. But I believe that with the right information, knowing what to do with it, and unwavering empowerment and support we can positively influence our own experiences and create birth stories we’ll want to remember.

Two babies, two births— two different stories. Now that you know mine, I’d love to hear yours.
