This weekend we celebrated two years of birth work, from the very first birth I supported as a doula before I even started my training or launched Nurtured Birth. I can’t believe it’s already been two years that I have been privileged to serve Sudbury’s expecting parents in this role! I am so, so thankful for the families that have trusted me to serve them through their pregnancies, births and postpartum periods.
I love that for the past year of my doula journey I was expecting Sadie alongside the pregnant moms I was serving. I supported births all the way up until 32 weeks at which point I turned my attention to preparing for my own upcoming labour and delivery– ending my year with a lovely home birth in August 2017.
Sadie is three months today, marking the end of our fourth trimester together– a time of healing, rest, and getting to know our sweet new babe! She is a happy, easygoing and fairly independent little thing, to the extent that a newborn can be– and I feel totally ready to resume birth work at this time. So that means…
We’re back! I cannot wait to begin supporting expecting families, providing nurturing, continuous care, prenatal education for informed decision making, hands-on support during labour, and unwavering validation through this tremendously emotional time. For Sadie’s birth we had a doula for the first time– and let me tell you, that experience only strengthened my belief that no matter the circumstances, it is better for the whole family to have the personal, professional support that a doula provides. I really felt that she rounded out our birth team, and along with our midwives, helped me to have the best birth experience yet!
Are you expecting in 2018? Expect to be nurtured!
